Hiked 18 mi this day, ending up at Crawfish Valley, the site of the infamous tent-eating raccoon. While I was hanging my food bag at night, a raccoon, which had come up to me begging for food, thought it was ok if he helped himself to rummaging through my stuff. Tore the insole from out of one of my boots, ate a hole in my first aid kit and, lastly, tried to get into my tent, chewing a small hole & leaving some other puncture holes from claws/nails. A piece of a claw/nail was hanging from a hole. Earlier in the day, outside of Atkins, VA, came upon bear remains by the railroad tracks.
